【Narrowing by region】
Materials in the possession of the Asian Research Library are classified in three levels: region, language, and subject.
Regions are categorized using the following six codes (For the Asian Research Library’s classification chart, please refer here).

4 South Asia
5 Central Eurasia
6 West Asia
To narrow your search by region, for prefix searching, input a regional code followed with an asterisk (e.g., “1*” or “2*”) in the search window, and then select “Call No.” from the provided options.
【Narrowing by subject】
Subjects are categorized using the following codes.
000 – 099 General works
100 – 199 Philosophy, Religion
200 – 299 History, Geography
300 – 399 Social sciences
400 – 499 Natural sciences
500 – 599 Technology, Engineering
600 – 699 Industry and commerce
700 – 799 The arts, Fine arts
800 – 899 Language
900 – 999 Literature
For example, if you wish to narrow your search to “200 – 299 History, Geography”, input “*:2*:*” (the colons are required to specify that this is the classification by subject indicated at the second level on the labels attached to the materials) in the search window, and then select “Call No.” from the provided options.
You can further narrow your search by publication year, author, publisher, language, etc., using the options in the “Filtering Item” field displayed to the left of the search results.
【Other】
In addition to the above, you can also restrict your search to the donated materials of the Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies or the Heibonsha Toyo Bunko series. To do so, input “*TRCCS*” (for the former) or “*東洋文庫*” in Japanese (for the latter) in the “Call No.” window.
