Aki TANAKA is specializing in Vietnamese language literature, I study the modern and contemporary history of Vietnam greatly predetermined by colonialism and war using literature as a looking glass to add new perspectives. Past research has focused on the life and works of Khái Hưng, a Vietnamese novelist of the French colonial period and founding member of the Self-Reliant Literary Group, who used to receive little academic attention due to Vietnam’s complicated history. Current research has been devoted to war literature from the defeated side and I also have a deep interest in refugee literature.
