Daigo ISSHIKI Deputy Project Leader & Project Associate Professor

ISSHIKI’s research focuses on the transmission and inheritance of Buddhist scholarship in Asia. In recent years, he has been investigating the modernization of Buddhist scholarship in Japan with a view to the changes in the university system. On the basis of his findings, he examines the potential of Buddhist thought for the study of the fusion of humanities and science.

Erina OTA-TSUKADA Project Assistant Professor

OTA’s research focuses on people’s “ecology” in medieval Arab urban society and aims to deepen our understanding of survival knowledge by elucidating interconnections with the help of both digital humanities and close reading of historical sources. In recent years, she has been working on data mining the networks of scholars, administrators, and other civilian elites in the 15th century through structuring digitized historical documents and employing Resource Description Framework (RDF).

Tatsuo ARAKI Project Research Fellow

Tatsuo ARAKI is having a great interest in Shuihuzhuan as well as folklore and popular literature of the Ming and Qing dynasties, so far, he has been conducting research on such topics as: various editions of Shuihuzhuan, the spread of Shuihuzhuan-related stories in Taiwan, and mentioning of pandas in Chinese literature.
